About

Reverend Phillip Bio

Rev. Phillip is an artist and author based in the United States. He has published several novels including Nicholas of Myra, Ghoul-Chasers, and the graphic novels Don't Make a Movie and Stillborn: The First Zombie.

Born near Chicago, Phillip's parents would relocate across country for work. Growing up around farmland USA, Phillip took an interest in the arts at a young age. After seeing his older siblings perform in school plays, Phillip began acting in high school and on through college where he started making independent films. When one of his short films was accepted to a film festival, Phillip jumped at the chance and would later move to Hollywood working on any production he could. Sadly, the crash in 2008 would change all that when Phillip would relocate cross country to help family during the recession. His attempts to get a film made were met with constant delays and headaches, causing Phillip to abandon his hopes of making a career in the film business. He would then take his talents for writing and begin writing comic books and then novels. With over two dozen film scripts in hand, Phillip took those ideas and placed them in a new medium where he could reach an audience without the need of a cast, crew and equipment.

What is "Dudeism"?

Dudeism is modern day Taoism which is the art of peace. Dudeism is a philosophy, not a religion, and that philosophy is based around the phrase, "Take it easy", as to say one must act with a calm mind. You don't make good decisions when you are scared or stressed or angry. Remaining calm in any stressful situation is one the greatest tools you can master. Oh, and smoking weed is totally encouraged.

What inspired you to write?

I have always been a fan of books. My parents got the entire Dr. Seuss collection when I was a kid and the Encyclopedia Britannica because the internet didn't exist back then. I loved diving into these stories and always wanted to make my own, but never thought I was good enough. After reading a popular novel, I got up the courage and started writing.

Do you have any favorite authors?

Tons. I can name the popular ones like Stephen King, Anne Rice, Ray Bradbury, Phillip K. Dick, J. R. R Tolkien, Neil Gaiman, Charles Dickens, Mary Shelley and so on. There are also some other authors I enjoy that may not be as popular such as John Shirley, Dan McDowell, O. Henry and Hunter S. Thompson.

What do you love/hate about being an author?

I love creating stories and characters, writing down these movies in my head. Writing is very therapeutic and a great way to channel your focus by creating something positive. However, I hate everything else; marketing, editing, formatting, proofreading and critics. If I could get away without doing any of those I would be in paradise.

Has AI writing been a concern for you?

No. Right now, AI is really clunky. Just look at AI art with the seven fingers and ten thousand teeth and you'll understand what I mean. I don't really see AI as a replacement so much as a tool for artists to use for references or inspiration. AI songs and books are terrible right now, which may change in the future, but the way I see it AI can't replace an artist.
